North German Confederation 1870 letter, Berlin to Halle. This letter was written
to a war veteran who had won the 'iron cross' at some time prior to 1870. The letter confirms the delay (due to events beyond
their control) of a veterans parade. The letter would be of interest to military history collectors, for further research.
The 1/3 Grochen stamp is postmarked BERLIN P E VII. This item is in good condition.

| India 1908 cover |
|
India. Posted cover 1908.
Originally addressed to Park Gate, near Chester, it was redirected to Colwyn Bay, South Wales. It carries
3 clear CDS postmarks of Parkgate, Chester and Colwyn Bay on the reverse and Hestons, Cheshire on the front. The fifth postmark
over the overprinted 1 anna on two anna is difficult to discern but may be worked out by a specialist. The cover is a little
ragged on the left edge. A fine and scarce item, offers are invited, please use our Contact details for more information or to make an offer.

| An early (1904) Christmas card from the Khyber Pass! |
|
This is a 1904 Christmas card from Capt. and Mrs Arundell of the R.A.M.C.
Note the lack of what we would call Christmas themes; Santa, Christmas trees etc. The front is in colour and
depicts a native highland warrior complete with rifle looking down over the pass. The crest is that of the R.A.M.C. (Royal
Army Medical Corps), with the motto 'in arduis fidelis'. The message "hearty greetings" appears at the bottom and the whole
is bound with a red, white and blue ribbon.

| Illustrated 1904 Khyber Pass christmas card |
|
This is the inside of the card. On the left is a superb early image/photograph (possibly
enhanced) of camel caravans coming down through the pass. It is signed by 'Holmes' On the right is a traditional
greeting and signed from Capt. and Mrs Arundell, Peshawar 1904. The card was also made in Peshawar.
This card is highly evocative and in very good condition. Therefore, (also because I am reluctant
to sell!!) we ask for sensibly high offers for this item. Please use our Contact details page to make enquiries or an offer.

| Graf Zeppelin, note how small the 2 buildings look! |

Frankfurt (main) 1948 postcard. On the pictorial side
is a still life picture of flowers. The address side is very austere in appearance, (as one might expect, just 3 years after
WW2 in Germany). The card was sent about 2 months before currency reform. The card is highly significant as the European Union
did not exist at this time. On May 14th 1947 Sir Winston Churchill first proposed the 'United Europe Movement'. In May 1948
the first 'European Congress', Chaired By Sir Winston Churchill took place in the Hague (Netherlands). The EEC 'proper' came
a few years later. Finally, the first major attempt at a 'European Union' took place in Frankfurt in May 1848. It was an amalgamation
of German States, Austria and other countries. It did not last long!
